I just got a laptop from my grandma and herers the problem, whenever i start it up the screen goes to the SAFE MODE, SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING, SAFEMODE WITH COMMAND PROMPT, LAST GOOD CONFIGURATION, START WINDOWS NORMALLY. Any suggestions?

If your grandma bought it just recently id recommend taking it back [if they still have thwe receipt etc] get another one. If she didnt one option could be to over write the files with a windows xp cd if you have one.

I have tried that, but upon booting, the safemode screen shows up again, then when i select one of the options it goes to SONY, then flickers and goes back to the f8 screen

sounds to me like that's either your graphics card or your ram. probably your ram. if you dont have any experience with computer just go to a local store. or if youve still got warranty bring it back to where you bought it.

You need to find a little hatch on the bottom of the laptop. there are a few you just need to check them all out for 1 or 2 bars of about 10 by 3cm if youve got 2 of them try taking one out and starting up the laptop if it doesnt work switch them. If it still doesnt work or you only have one bar the only thing i can think of is that your graphics card gave totally gave up on you ---> bring it to a shop
