Default Need good virus/spyware program that I can turn off/on to save power

I need a good anti-virus and spyware program that doesn't slow my PC down like Panda Titanium for instance. Something I can turn off and not have running in the background and turn it on when I want to scan my PC?

I do a lot multimeda stuff and all that extra memory and CPU Power is needed.
thanks

Kerio Personal Firewall
AVG

I've used both ad they both work pretty well for beign free. however ANY decent AV you get will run in the background...it's realtime protection. You can turn it off, but then you are at risk of being infected and not knowing it.

Nod32 is a really good/lite AV, but it costs $30.

Default Avg

i recommend getting AVG its free and works great
also for programs running in th back ground if you cant close them from the toolbar, just go ctrl + alt delete and go under processes and sort by user name and any things under your user name you can close except explorer if you close this by accidnet just restart your comp.

If you close explorer.exe just restart it.

File > New Task > "explorer.exe"

Most processes will let you restart them this way, or by simply starting the program again. There are a few critical ones though that will crash your PC or require a restart to be fully up and runnign again.

I do a lot of audio recording with my computer so I know what you mean. I use Micro Antivirus for antivirus and NoAdware for spywares.
