Onboard or PCI slot device? For onboard you would have to go to Dell's support site for updated drivers for board and sound to try one there. For a card that was added after purchase you would need to go to the card manufacturer's own support site for the updates they have. In either type you can usually upgrade the audio drivers easily by a going into the Device Manager and right clicking on the appropiate listing under the sound and gaming devices catagory. You then choose the update driver option to browse to the folder where the driver package(usuall a zip file) was opened unless the update has an installer. (You didn't reformat your cpu however. You reformatted your hard drive or hard disk depending on how you want to refer to that.)

The model number for your system would help due to reviewing the support section to see the correct download is found. It could be a DMI driver set without knowing for certain there. The main support page for various sound and other types of drivers is at http://support.dell.com/support/down...os=WW1&osl=EN#

yea i agree, everytime you reformat you need... #1 and most importantly motherboard drivers. #2 graphics + sound drivers. if you have integrated sound/graphics im sure the drivers are on the same disc as the motherboard drivers.
drivers are given out on the manufacturers websites, but be careful because drivers for the wrong device could screw things up and require another reformat.
