Default wireless? Please help

Hi, everyone.. how does wireless internet work? I have a laptop and it has wireless.. how do I get internet for it? DO I have to go to an internet cafe?

Or is there a service provider that can provide me with internet even if I'm in the desert (lol not literal of course)

I know that cell phones have wireless internet.. so I can go on the internet in the desert should I have a cell or laptop with wireless right?

Also, If you're in a public place with (wireless internet connection) and other people are sharing that connect, is it possible they can intrude your computer and hack you/see what you're doing?

Please help me, I've read about wireless internet but I just dont understand it, please help, thank you so much!!!

well you need a wireless router 2 get wireles internet, the card and a router have a certain footage of signal range, and yes, if you dont have security set up with the router it's possible 4 someone 2 hack in, if the know the SSID.

You can get internet pretty much anywhere if you get a special card with your cell phone provider. You put the card into your laptop, and so long as you have a signal, you can get on the internet (just like you need a signal to make a call). That form of internet, however, is generally very slow and expensive, and only really worth it for mobile professionals who need internet wherever they are.

ya its just a card (basically like a router) that is hooked up through some mobile service. Giving you internet anywhere a signal can be amde. ya these are very slow (i wouldnt want to use a internet like this for anything other than emailing and browsing)

Go here (http://www.dslreports.com/prequal) and check to see if you can get any kind of internet. IF you can and it is a reasonable price (20-45) get a wireless router. Then you provide a source for your laptop to connect to the internet.

Think of the internet as water... The city has plenty, you have none. How would you get the water from the city? See if companies provide it at a reasonable price.

Advise: Don't get SDSL or IDSL. You want ADSL.
