Help, I Flashed My Bios and Now I Have No Bios

Help, I just flashed by Dell Inspiron 1000 with the latest Bios update from dell, and now I have to Bios to boot up my computer.

If your flash was unsucessful, there's usally some way to reload the bios. Many computers will ask for a floppy disk with the image on it. I have also seen sites that carry freashly flashed ROMs...however, being a laptop, I don't know if it's even possible to swap it out.

Do you think he was describing the BIOS screen that is coming up because the CMOS won't save settings and thus defaults at every boot in which he had to exit the BIOS settings screen to boot Windows?

If the BIOS settings won't save, then you should reset the CMOS, flash back to the old BIOS, or replace the CMOS battery on the motherboard (usually looks like a watch battery).

The first thing you should do is take the battery out for 10 minutes (system off and unplugged) and then put it back in to reset the CMOS. However, replacing the battery may be another fix due to the old battery not having enough charge to maintain the BIOS settings.

Update: Okay, so I actually disassembled my first laptop today and removed the CMOS battery for 30 mins. Still won't solve the problem. There is no Dell logo or anything like "Phoenix" or "EnergyStar" when I power on. I know that it's not an HD problem b/c I actually took out the HD and swapped it for my friend's HD in his Inspiron 1300 and it worked fine.

Anyone have any idea how to flash the BIOS w/o a functioning BIOS to load the flash program?

You know, i am having a similar problem. i locked myself out of my computer by password and i want to reset the bios to get in.

But you can't even press DEL or F2 at start to get into anything?

I agree that the BIOS must be loadable from the first check point, usually floppy, sometimes cdrom or even flash drive.
