Default Just got a laptop need some knowlegable help!

Hello, i just recieved a laptop from my uncle and need some help getting started,i have done some research on the net, but there are so many choices and things i dont understand.

Things i know..its a Dell d600..system says 1400mhz,then and mhz field that changes from 500-1400mhz, and 680m of ram and a 20 g harddrive, is this outdated or ok to use for school/internet purposes.....

i know i need a couple things and if i could get some suggestions on where/what model/price range to look for i will be very grateful

wireless capability. there is a slot on the side on the computer that has a plastic dell insert in it which i m assuming is a spot for a wirelss card? would i just need to buy a card for this and plug it in to get connected?

cd/rom drive so i can read and burn cds, anyone where to get one compatible and cheap?

sound card , i dont think i have sounds access, when i try to open a sample media files it says no sounds card installed, where would this be located and if i needed one just to listen to mp3s with where should i go

and finally a recharger for the battery, anyone know what model i need so i can recharge the battery?

thanks so much for help advice help given, im really excited about getting this thing up and running just need some help..thanks to all who pitch in!
