the screensaver will ask you for the password of the account you are using when it appears.... so all you have to do is set a password on you windows XP account ( i assume you know how to do that)
and if you don't ... just try writing this in CMD net user USERNAME PASSWORD remember you will be asked for the password before you log in to windows everytime |

In Windows XP, when you enable password protect it will bring you to the login menu, and then ask you for your login password. If you dont have any user accounts set up, or dont have any passwords, then it wont work.
In Windows 95/98, when you enable password protect it will ask you to enter the old password (if there is on), then enter the new one.
