Default More b****ing about glitching

When i run games on my pc they start to glitch after about 15mins and then crash. When they crash the whole computer goes screwed and even the power button doesn't respond. I used to get this problem when my graphics card was overheating but thats fitted with a Zalman now and runs at about 40'C. At the moment i'm blaming my cpu. Even when i have no applications running it's about 50'C and when i play games it gets above 55 to almost 60. I'm thinking of replacing my crappy aluminium heatsink and 60mm fan with a copper heatsink and a 70mm but i wondered if anyone had an opinion on this. Whats gone wrong? Will these new components help? If so can anyone recommend a good one that is compatible with my pc?

I've had troubles with HL2, Hitman:BM, Chronicles of Riddick, CoD2, CS:Source. They all mess up in the same way: First they freeze, then the textures turn grainy, then multi-coloured dots appear everywhere, then the screen goes blank and the pc refuses to function, it doesn't even turn off. I had the exact same symptoms when my gpu overheated so i naturally assumed that it was a heat issue.
