scan out of range

hi, im trying to play a game, but im getting "scan out of range 53.7khz / 85hz"

im using windows xp, and i tried putting it to 60hz, but i still get the black screen saying scan out or range..

any help is much appreciated!

Games usally run at different resolutions than the actual system does. Does this game have a safe mode or anything that you could run it in and then bump the resolution down to a usable one? Well, I assume it's the resolution and not the Hz... I had similar errors from my monitor using resolutions that were too high.
