If your installing windows 98 or below you can use floppys and If you buy a new CD rom drive, i would highly suggest a internal instead of external.

What about all of your spare parts? And why would you get external over internal. I don't even know if you can install from an external. My mobo does because I have USB BIOS support, many, and even more older ones don't support USB at boot time.
