Default Pentium D Processor 920 Dual 2.8GHz or AMD 64x2 4200+ Duo? Which is better?

Please help! Which is better: Pentium D Processor 920 Dual 2.8GHz or AMD 64x2 4200+ Duo?

And by how much? Does it make a ton of difference??

Thank you!!

I would personally take the AMD X2 any day.

If you are planning on gaming, then get AMD. If you are really not gaming at all then get the Intel.

OR, you could wait for Conroe to come out and get a kick ass processor.

OR, you could wait for AMD's price cut and get maybe a X2 4400+ instead.

The X2 is the winner over the 920 in all situations, but if you look at the price difference you'll see why.

I agree, the X2 4200+ is almost twice as expensive as the 920, so its not really a fair comparison.

But how well would the Intel perform for gaming if setup with a 7900GS Video card and 2gb of DDR @ 533mhc memory?

My cousin is getting that setup and wants to run World of Warcraft and a few other games. Mostly WoW though.

The Intel will do fine in games. I have a 805 and I can play games on max settings with my 7600GS. He will have no problem with a 920 and a 7900GT.

It would perform very good, however not as good as an X2 3800+.

And dont get DDR2-533 memory, I would strongly suggest getting DDR2-667.

Unfortunately he can't. He's getting a Dell (His parents won't help him buy a custom computer) and that's not one of the options...
