system restore
does it affect files downloaded after that point or it only affects drivers and system files and applications? what about files like movies,mp3s, pictures and stuff? if so i'll need to backup before restore. but they stated that this is reversible.

system RESTORE should NOT DELETE DATA encluding the things you mentioned.
I say SHOULD because... you never know.. my advice is to make a backup of everything important.. Still, system files and the registry should be the only things being restored to a previous point.

if you have spyware on your machine get Adaware and spybot search and destroy. (freeware from download.com)

System Restore doesn't get rid of spy ware it only restores system settings nothing more. No files should be deleted, get spyware if u are unsure if u have spyware on ur pc.
