Vista wont be released for at least a year, and at the rate it's going maybe even 2 years!. Theres no reason to hold off buying XP now, especially since Vista will be very expensive when it first comes out.

Well put. I don't think its worth the time waiting around for Vista and the money. Although when Vista comes out XP prices will drop damatically.

Building a system isn't nesiciarlly* hard, it is just frustrating. When parts arent willing to cooperate, it can give you a headache. That is really the only trouble you can run into. If you dont want to build though, I recommend checking out www.ibuypower.com or www.cyberpowerpc.com.
