Default CD DVD combo or DVD Writer

dont know whether its true or not but i have heard that getting a DVD writer in a laptop is not good as the write speed is very slow.
is this true?

I would think that it would depend on the write speed of the drive. Not all laptop drives have the same write speed. Look at the laptop's specs in reference to the DVD drive. The DVD drive in my Macbook Pro seems to write at a decent speed.
