Default need advice for file server

Hey everyone,

I am planning to build a file server with the following specs.

2 sata drives, 3-4 ide 100/133 hard drives, so 5-6 hard drives in total.

I have the following to work with (just in case I would be able to use it for this)

1. Full Tower - super micro case (400 watt i think).. it's like 6 years old
2. in this full tower - 1.2 AMD t-bird, mobo: Abit KT7-a RAID (yes it's old I know).
3. mid tower, 1.6p4 with crappy mobo my college gave me

neither the abit or other board have sata capability, so i am not sure if buying a pci card with 2 x sata 150 support would be a good idea for either

The purpose of this 'server': 5-6 hard drives totaling about 1.5TB, about 1tb filled at a time) and it will run 24/7 over a lan with probably a lot of traffic (but only 2-3 connections at a time maybe 5mb/s total)

I need suggestions as to whether you think my 1.2 tbird/abit could handle that load (which I doubt but I'm no expert), or if there is an alternative, what mobo/cpu would you recommend that I use for this purpose that won't cost me too much but still do the job fine? I plan on max 512 ram (I'm hoping that is all I need)

If I'm not making sense, please let me know. I appreciate any help you can give me

Default

ok let me rephrase...

if I buy a pci sata controller for two drives, i'll have sata support as well as the IDE spots...since the kt7a raid is pci 2.2 compliant.

at 1.2gz and a heatsink upgrade (as well as about 512 ram), should this run without problems?
