Mmk, so I bought a Dell monitor (Used) and its all hooked up, but for some reason it won't let me use 1024/768. When I switch to it, the screen goes black and says "cannot display on this setting" now this I can understand. But in the monitor menu it says "Best if used in 1024/768 mode" I know my video card can handle it, 'cause I've used this setting with my CRT I had before.
I was just wondering if its the monitor that can't handle it or if I just need to change something other settings. Monitor: Dell 1501FP, using analog. Card: ATI Sapphire Radeon 9250 |

Try to use dvi. I think those cards come with that. Unless your monitor doesn't.

holyjunk, he said it is in analog mode so he is using VGA.
Timmie, is there a white port on the back of the LCD anywhere, it should be wider than the blue VGA port and different looking. This white port is DVI, by using this you might possibly be able to use 1024x768. The DVI port is on the back of some graphics cards, usually newer ones. if you use a DVI cable to hook form the back of the LCd to yuor gfx card, it usually gives you better picture quality but onto the question at hand. Before you do anything try this, go to Control Panel-Display-Settings this should be where u can change ur resolution. Now hit the Advanced button. there should be various tabs on the top of the next window, click Monitor. Set the screen refresh rate to 60Hz, this is usually default for LCDs. Now try changing your res to 1024x768 and please post back if this works.

if you have the cord and your gfx card supports it, DVI is better
