As I mentioned here a few times, I beleive, I'm helping with this PDA project at work. Basically we have to figure out the best PDA to give out to about 600+ doctors. Here's the list of what we have, and some pros/cons of them. I'm just curious what you guys think...
We plan to use quite a few programs on these things. Basic databases for mecial records, medications, as well as Citrix(remote desktop) office communicator(Exchange chat client), data encryption, anti-virus, IP/Softphone, etc etc... Audiovox PPC-6700 416MHz, 128M RAM, 802.11b, bluetooth, cellphone, slide-out keyboard, camera. *Pros - Cellphone makeup(however the softphone audio comes out of the main speaker, NOT the cellphone ear-peice) built in keyboard, small. *Cons - very small screen, sluggish, requires mini-SD for all software. Dell Axim x51v 624MHz, 256M RAM, 802.11b, bluetooth *Pros - Larger high resolution screen, rather fast *Cons - Limited battery life(around 2 hours), snap-on keyboard is large Dell Axim x51 ~500MHz, 128M RAM, 802.11b, bluetooth Pros - Large screen, faster than Audiovox Con - Still limited battery(about 3 hours), keyboard, memory We also had a couple HPs, but they where horrible. One has totally died on us, the other has a very low resolution screen(240x240) so is next to useless... As of now, I beleive most people are leaning towards the Audiovox. Though the screen's rather small, the internal keyboard is nice and a much better layout than any other we have. The battery life is pretty good too, but of course, that's because it's only 416MHz.

Trust me, once you use the thumb keyboard on the Axim's, you'd hate it. I don't have one handy, but I just remember the layout being horrible. If I remember corectly, the space key isn't even in the bottom center of the keys!

I would go with the Axim x51 (not x51v). I would take the longer battery life over a slightly faster processor anyday, and im guessing it's also cheaper.
And the newer Dell Axim's have a similar technology to what laptops have, it automatically lowers the clock speed to save battery life.

but these doctors might want something with some battery life, three hours is pretty rubbish. i dunno. and also the battery gets worse and worse the older it gets

@spamdos- the battery life is crummy, but what you said about less after time is true of almost all palms. if these are the only options, then get x50. if not, i'd try for cheaper or maybe look into the palm side instead of the ppc side. i have a palm and i loooove it

Palm's out of the question due to the software requirements we have. Plus we have MS everything else, so we need it all to sync up(exchange, communicator, etc etc...)
The decision was made a few days ago for the Audiovox 6700s. We all pretty much expected that due to the keyboards and longer battery life. Still, some people thing the x51(not the v's) would be better due to the slightly larger screens...
