Angry New hd making dvd drive not work

Ok, so i went out and got a new hard drive, installed windows on it, and my DVD drive does not want to work, I put a cd in, it doesent read it, same with DVDs and or burning.

I have the old HD, and I can plug it in, and the DVD drive works fine. But when i swap back out, it doesent work.

I did not screw around with the DVD cables

The hard drive is set as single on the jumper cables, its on the primary IDE cable.

The DVD drive is set as master and its on the Secondary IDE cable.

I also tried to install windows on the new HD with the dvd drive, and it didnt read the windows cd properly either so i had to use an old CD drive. so its not just windows screwing this up.

The HD is a western digital, the DVD is an LG combo thingy

Thanks in advance

ok, soo you used a old HD, and it worked, but with the new it doesnt? i'd say the new HD is probrably bad, did you buy it in store? or get it shipped? if you got it shipped, it might have got damaged during delivery.

well heres the thing why i think its not damaged, first, i got it from the store itself.

and second, if i plug in the CD drive on the same cable as the dvd drive was, and unplug the dvd drive, the CD drive works every single time

You most likly have the jumpers on your one of your drives set wrong, Try putting them all on Auto or Cable select and see if it works.

Also did your DVD drive come with any installation CD's or software? Try installing everything.(that came with the DVD drive)
