I am not satisfied with microsoft word and im looking for a good alternative. I would like something simple that works well and is compatible with word, but what i am really interested in is what other people are using and what are their reasons for not wanting to use microsoft word. Is it the cost of the software or is it the flaws in microsoft word that people don't like? Please let me know what you think.

OpenOffice is nice. I use it all the time. However, it is a bit slower than Word loading up, and the spell checker isn't quite as good.

I have Office 2000 Pro,
Yep its a little outdated but it works just great for me,I actualy think office 2000 is better than 2003 or the newest one because 2000 loads faster on my computer.

I am using the Microsoft Office 2007 BETA, its nice.
Microsoft Office is a great set of programs, if you aren't satisfied with that. Then I doubt you will be with any of the free Office programs.

Microsoft Word and Excel are two incredible applications. I would surmise that most people only use ~5% of the functionality of each application. Just take a look at macros, functions and VBA (Visual Basic for Applications)..
