Default linux hardware drivers?

is there any other resource (other than googling) that i can use to find a listing of drivers for some of my hardware? my graphics card is a duck in water, and its pissing me off that my 19-inch widescreen samsung is stuck on a 1024-768 resolution because the drivers are .exe files only! any help please????

(i googled my monitor and couldnt find anything, im going to try the graphics card now.)
