Default please help GPS not working!

i bought an HOLUX GM-270 gps receiver with the PCMCIA Adapter a while ago. i tried to get this to wrk with microsoft street and trips. It can be detectd by the software, but it will not show my current location and the gps time is in the year of 2004. Using all original settings, do i have to change the settings to get this receiver to work? This was hooked up to a Dell inspiron 700m laptop.
