ok i have decided to not get conroe an buy an AMD when the orice cut comes in..... ok i need it all, this comp will be for gaming, surfing, and basixc tasks. I want a nice video card, and 2 ahrddrives 1 10000rpm and one bigger 7200 (160g or so), i ahve a case and would like suggestions on a nice system that will somewhat not cause me greif.

also im not sure igf agp (type of video card i want) has a pc tuner, and im not quite sure how they work but id like to know if you basically hook the comp to tv and can record off the tv to comp if os i want one

Well, here's a suggestion, wait, and see what happens with the price cuts. Then look for benchmarks, and see if Conroe is a better bang for the buck, or AMD, always look for what's a better proc for your dollar.

that sounds like a great processor, but just a few questions
1. does dual core mean 2 processors in one?
2. how fast will this run? ghz
3. fsb, what exactly does it do......

Dual core means 2 processing cores/dies on one chip. This is just like two processors because the die is really where data is processed.

It runs at 2.2 GHz, from the research I've done. Don't let this fool you, GHz aren't everything. This is about the equivalent of a dual core 3.4 GHz Pentium 4. It performs a lot more operations per clock cycle.

FSB stands for Front Side Bus, and is a measurement of how fast the processor communicates with the chipset and ram. The more, the better. AMD does this well, Intel's FSB sometimes bottlenecks RAM performance, I like AMD's integrated memory controller, kind of, except the architecture really needs to be redesigned for every new memory type.

Well, there are a lot of other factors. For one, it has that faster FSB we talked about, second, it has a lot more level one cache, third, it performs more operations per clock cycle, and has a better pipeline system. It's not better at everything, it beats that 3.4 in more than the 3.4 beats it, but there are areas where the worse of the two will pull out a victory. Remember, clock speed is not so important, that's why the new conroes are going lower clocks, they're focusing more on Operations per clock cycle, better pipelines, and the like. MHz was just a marketing tactic Intel used because they're specifically designed Netburst architecture could reach high speeds with low efficiency (heat, and OPC), just so they'd have good looking numbers, I'm glad Otelini and crew moved away from that philosohy.

ok, i think i kinda understand...... this might be kind of a hard questikon but how is ghz determined then, also will that 2.2 be able to do it all? mulit task, game, and load quickly?

You can't truly compare a 2.2Ghz X2 to a 3.4Ghz P4, since they each perform better in certain tasks then others.

Also, the X2 doesn't have an FSB, they use HTT.

You're right about the clock speeds not meaning everything, since it's very easy to see in Intels Core architecture.

I can't say for sure how Ghz is determinded, but the rated speed they give you is just the frequency at which it transmits data (I believe). There are many other factors to consider now, and clock speed has become virtually unusuable for comparing different types of processors.
