Default I want to build a computer :)

Ok i really aprreciate help, even one tip at a time would be appreciated.

well i finally got a good summer job and i want to finish building my computer
so far ive got a nice case, with led lights and a fan, i need power supply, ram(atleast i gig), harddrive(s), processor (at least 3ghz or overcloockable to 3ghz, and lga775 socket), i want a lightscribed dvd rom (just one disc rom for this computer), a video card a bit better than a nvidia 5500fx (but for a pci-e slot, or one thats compatible with my motherboard), a sound card for some real loud noise.
ok my motherboard ECS 945P-A (1.1) ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail at Newegg.com
id preffer to keep that motherboard unless you strongly believe i should change it)
oh ya my budget im not quite sure but dont go crazy.
thanks in advance

hmm, you should have gotten a conroe compatible board, seeing conroe blew most of its competition out of the water in early on tests. But seeing that your motherboard doesn't support conroe, you'll have to settle with some Pentium D, maybe 930 seeing you want 3ghz+. For the rest, we'll need a budget from you first, or atleast a general range.

Try getting a better board. That one is a little weak.

Weak how? If you are going to make comments like that explain your reasoning first.

well i dont mind getting a new moard if thats what everyone reccomends, i mean i payed 40US for it so i guess i could sell it. Ok how about this i have a computer already and want a new one. So i was thinking i could use my current videocard to save on money (NVidia FX 5500), i also already have 512mb of ram (umm its DDR Single Channel, is there a program to figure out how many pins it has? 180, 204......) For my budget how about around 1200US(nomore) or 1350 CAN.
im not sure if my current memory will work with the new mobo or anything but id preffer to make it all work.
Also is Conroe pentium or what?
thanks again

conroe is core 2 duo, it's brand new technology so it's not like pentium or anything like that, but it's gonna be sweet. If you can't get a new motherboard for conroe pentium D is pretty good. i got a 930 recently, it's worked pretty well, prices are dropping on pentium d's too so you could get a pretty good one

Either way, to get a conroe, you'll need new ram, and new video (DDr2 and PCI-E). If you go for a Pentium D, (not reccomened), you'll need to upgrade both, or find a rare board which supports AGP and DDR1 (which may hold back performance). IMO, you should really just upgrade it all.

Upgrade to a Conroe compatible motherboard, along with DDRII ram, a new pci-express graphics card, and a core2 duo processor if you really want the best.
