Lightbulb HDD W/out cover

I have here with me my old WD 2.5in laptop 40GB drive... it died on me, wont read data... but it still spins. I took the cover off, for fun, and its sooo cool, but my question is- is it safe for me to plug it back in with my USB adapter and watch it? i dont want 5400RPM of HDD platter to kill me, so any help is appreciated.

IF it spins off it could be dangerous... If you want to try it, do it with some sort of safety. Put it inside a box with a plastic lid or something. I dont think it will spin, or work properly without the lid, but give it a try...

Ya it will work fine as long as you didn't mess something up when you took the cover off. But you should put something over it not only for safety but to keep the dust of the discs, but then again it doesn't work anyway.

Its probably not just because you took off the cover, you may have messed something up in the process. Also it is just becuase the cover is off, there has to be a switch or sensor of somesort to know when the cover is off. Find that and you should be able to get it working.
