I just got my new computer and all and was starting to transfer files over a network i created. all was going well until the old comouter froze completely, no mouse action or anything. so i did whut anybody would do...manual shutdown
. heres where it starts. when it was off i pressed the on button and the green light ("on" light) starts flashing irregualry and the case is making a long beeping noise. the noise stops, and it sounds again. so i shut it off again, but rlly don't want to try again incase it really is a hardware issue that will harm the computer. is this a motherboard failure or psu or what?

well these beeps are what is called a POST code. If there is a major hardware problem, the motherboard will give you an error code, usually in beeps. Just listen and see how many there are and which are long beeps and which are short beeps. for example 2 long beeps and a short beeps. Just listen and post which are short and long and what sequence.

okay i turned it on again, i got 10 long beeps in a row, and decided to turn it off again because i don't think it was going to do anything different.
EDIT: i just searched POST code and it says repeating long beeps is a memory failure or error which would make sense because it completely froze. could this be the problem?

how many RAM cards do you have in your computer? if you ahve more than 1 try taking each out one at a time and see if it fixes the problem.

Before you drive yourself crazy remove the memory and re-seat it (Put it back in). Try it. If the problem persists and you have more then one memory chip remove one chip and a time and try it. Try to isolate it to the bad chip or solt. If you get it up and running on one chip you should be able to finish your file transfer. Then if you plan on keeping the PC take the bad chip to the local electronics store toss it on the counter and say, "Give me another one of these."
Good luck dude
