I've got a problem with the display on my Sony VAIO A215Z. Whenever I turn it on, as soon as the VAIO logo pops up on start-up, weird horizontal lines start appearing on the screen.
I've spoken to Sony who are quoting an astronomical amount to have a look at it, as I'm through the guarantee period, though I've only had the laptop for a mere 18 months and have looked after it well. I'm clearly loath to start spending lots of money on sending it back to the manufacturers if the problem can be solved easily. I've uninstalled the ATI driver, and reinstalled it again, to no avail. Someone mentioned it could be the chip in side the computer that's damaged, and someone else said the problems could simply be occuring because of the 30 degree c (and more) temperatures at the moment. Can anyone suggest what may be wrong and how to fix it? Many thanks! |

Can you actually get into XP and move around in it? My first guess would be the temperature, seeming as it's a hot summer this year, and laptop's can get hot pretty easily.
Quote:
Leave it for a while (turned off) and wait for it to cool down a bit. Then go to a cool place in your house and see whether the problem is still there. Make sure you don't block any airflow vents on the laptop, so it can get rid of the heat as quick as it can. EDIT: Oh, and by the way, you posted this in the wrong section. This is where you should've posted

do the lines move about or are they stationary? also, if you plug it in to an external monitor are they still there, if the lines are still there on the external monitor it normally means that the mainboard/graphics board (depending on the construction of your system) is damaged and needs replacing.
If its only on the notebook display it means that there's a problem with the LCD or cables connecting it to the mainboard.
