Question Is the Sapphire X1600 Pro 512MB DDR2 AVIVO TV/Out 8X AGP any good?

Hi,

I really need to upgrade my graphics card as I only have a nVidea Gforce 4 64 MB intergrated chip! This is actually ok as it can rin Call Of Duty 2 on High no problem...
However I bough F.E.A.R and will be buying the newer games that come out, and these will not work with my present chip!

I am looking into getting a card that isn't too expensice, I'm thinking of the Sapphire X1600 Pro 512MB DDR2 AVIVO TV/Out 8X AGP

Is this an Ok card, and will it run the newest games?

Thanks, Danny

It will run the games well, but still be outdated, considering that it is AGP.

Its a good standard card. Dont expect it to play fear maxed out, but it is still pretty good.

Don't waste your money. The X1600 Pro will play current games just fine, but come this fall, you'll be finding yourself wanting to upgrade again. My suggestion: upgrade your system with a PCI-e board and get a 7600GT for around $230, or you could wait a little while for Vista to come out and get a DirectX 10 card. DX10 will be a huge improvement over 9, and it won't be backward compatible, so spending a ton of money on a new card now that won't run DX10 will just be a waste.

So are you saying DX10 wont work on DX9 games?

Ok ok, if that is true, which from my knowledge i think it kinda is, then yes Microsoft along with game evelopers will no longer add support for anything under DX10 cards.... Of course this is only on newly released games after MS releases DX10.... So yes, if you can wait then do wait until DX10, but even then you might find it hard to afford a DX10 card, if they are really new.

Me, im still on DX8 on my crappy little FX5200. Does me well enough. But it all boils down to what you are planning to do, are you only buying FEAR and a few other recent games, or are you planning on becoming a gamer and buying every single new release for the next 15 years??? if the latter then i would wait (or buy a mid-range card to tide you over until DX10)

I don't have a PCI slot, I only have an AGP...

When does DX10 come out?
So your saying that all the games from then on will be DX10 and I wont be able to play them?
