Default ATi Radeon X1950 cards announced

I haven't seen any threads about this yet so here it goes:

ATi has announced that two versions of the X1950 series will be released, the X1950 Crossfire and X1950XTX cards. Unlike what we've seen in the past both cards will have the same clock speeds. They will also feature 512Mb of GDDR4 memory which is speculated to be running at 2GHz, even though GDDR4 is capable of running at 3.2GHz in certain setups.

It has been confirmed that some 3rd party brands are planning on 650MHz core clocks, but some brands will probably sell cards with a higher clock speed.

And here's a link to DailyTech's article.

Interesting, it is a pretty sweet looking card. I hope the companies that produce them keep that cool red looking heatsink.

yea... and soon enough i heard ATI is going to start making their cards external... they'll need motherboards to support a wired form of pci-express and the reason they're doing it is because graphics cards release so much heat and use up so much electricity... plus then you can plug it into a laptop and make it a gaming laptop when stationary.
any word on the architecture of the x1950xtx?

Sweeet. Memory frequencys rivaling that of CPU's.

If ATi really has GDDR4 working then that means that it should be on R600.

All you need is an PCI-E extension cable, which would not make it possible to connect the card to a laptop. Not sure if these exist or not.

If they do make those adapters for laptops, theres no possbible way you can use it unless you have access to an outlet. Because those cards would drain a laptop battery in several minutes.

That looks like a pretty sick card. Are there any benchmarks out for it yet?

No benchmarks, atleast from what I've heard.

And the X1950 series use the R580 core, just with GDDR4, basically. Just read the article to find out more than what I wrote.
