windows boot speed on laptop

does anyone know how i can speed up the windows boot screen and startup on my laptop because when i turn my computer on it stays on the boot screen for about a minute then it starts windows.

What version of Windows do you have and what are your computer's specs?
Try running Disk Defrag. and Disk Cleanup.

i have a compaq evo n610c 512mb, 1.80ghz, 30gig, dvd, windows xp pro.14.1 inch screen.

Do you have spybot and ad-aware installed? If not, sometimes spyware can slow down your computer.

yes i ahve them installed and i also have AVG ANTI VIRUS THE FREE EDITON.

some bios have a setting to increase boot time. I think it eliminates tests or something.
