Default Help buying a laptop: is this good?

I was interested in buying a laptop for school. I was planning on spending around 800$ and will be using for word/excel and possibly some CAD software like wildfire or solidworks. Ive been looking around and have found this inspiron 1405:

1.86ghz dual core
1 gig ram
80 gig hd
dvd burner
2 yr warranty
for 800 with tax when applying some coupons

Is this a good choice? Should i get this one, or maybe a different brand, or wait a little longer for the merom chip? Also, I was wondering what people's opinions were of laptop screens with truelife? Are they a good choice or are they glarey?

stay with 1.66...you will definitely not need the extra power when youve already got a dual core. I doubt the 1 gig of ram is necessary either. True life is a good idea.

And how exactly do you get that for 800? The base price for their cheapest dual core is already 1058...so how can you possible add $64 for the 1.86 and the $55 for the extra 512 ram, and still keep it so low, especially with tax??? Arent you just using the 30% off 999+ coupon?

And why arent you wanting longer battery life? Will you always be plugged in?

I would go with the 1.86 cause it will be much faster and he aint paying much more for it and keep the 1 GB of ram cause the laptop will run much faster with it.

Just a tip if you aren't very particular about the brand. Get to know the basics of how to buy a laptop first. You will be better prepared to buy one when you do.
