Ok, i just recently bought a new Sony miniDV handycam and have been transfering the video from the camera to my PC via USB 2, but i relize that the data rate really sucks and the quaility is horrible. When viewing on my TV the quaility looks amazing. Now, i just found a firewire cable that i can use with the dock the camera came with, my only problem now is that i cant find where to hook up my front panel firewire port on my mobo. There seems to be no jumpers for it, iv read the manual many times and cant find anything. Anyone know if my mobo even supports firewire? I think it should being one of the best socket 478 mobos. I really dont wanna buy a firewire card........would a card effect the data rate as opposed to having the ports hooked up to the mobo directly?

Not neccisarily. Firewire orriginated in the Mac world (and is now dead there), and the PC world was very warry to adopt it. It really has never been a standard, and certainly not on 478. Firewire has been sort of a special niche feature for certain motherboards that have it. Most of the top motherboards until recently were 50/50 of having it, you'd have to kick it down to find a board that supported it.
Firewire 800 is almost double the speed of USB 2.0. I reccomend getting a PCI Firewire card. These are very cheap, and can hold about 3 hook ups in them. If you have the port on the front of your case, there's usually an internal connector right on the expansion card. Here's a selection of 1394 Firewire PCI cards at Newegg Hope this helps, sc7
