Default Download Accelerator

How well do Download Accelerators work? Are they worth using? Also can someone recommend me one? I get crap bandwidth on downloads and want to know if one will make it better.

Thanks,
Aaron

I think they work great for highspeed internet, they will always find the mirror with the fastest upload. They will not increase your speed beyond what your internet connection is capable of though so if you are using dialup and get download speeds of 5kbps thats what you are stuck with. My internet connection will get speeds of 660kbps but sometimes you get a server that everyone is downloading from or something and I might get speeds of 150kbps but a download manager sees that and switches to a better connection.

Another nice feature about them is if you are downloading something like a large file and you need to reboot or something you can pickup right where you left off instead of having to download the whole file all over again.

Well on large files, sometimes I'm lucky to get 50kb/sec.

think about it... 2 7900GTs:
7900+7900=15800
that is obviously a much higher number than 7950...

What kind of download speeds do you get? Test here and post back. http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/

You should be somewhere in the neighborhood of 1250kbps or 150KB/sec by the way thats what I ment when I said I get 660 KB/sec not kbps.

Edit: If you can get like 150KB/sec on the speed test I posted and your are trying to download a file that is available on multiple sites it will help you however if you are getting those slow speed downloading something from limewire or a bittorrent it will not help you...you can only download something as fast as someone can upload it.

They work by just splitting it and download the files simultaneously.. so it's like downloading several parts of the same file and patching it all together when done. That's most of the logic behind it.

Additionally, depending on where you download from, some sites don't allow download managers.. so you'll get an error or will have to use your browser download manager instead.

Wink Yes It Works !

Try DAP8 (Download accelarator plus 8)
I have it it works really well. At first i had dial-up connection which in mozilla and IE i got about 4-5KBPS.I dapp'ed the connection and i got 9-11kbps.
It's not that bad.

At work we're limited to 10KBPS. They dont know that i'm dapping the connection i get 16-19kbps. other workers are on restriction but i'm not (hahaha)

try it.if it works ok if it's doesn't screw it
