Server Computers

Ok so within this following year im gonna start djing for now im gonna do it as a part time job cause ill probably be attending university for architecture or college for either construction or computer tech but for my djing im gonna need to put together a few computers so i can do most of my music downloding and mixing but im gonna need to put a server together but i havnt put together a server b4 so if any one has any advice plz post

What kind of server? A web server or a home network server? Or both?

Are you speaking of a server just for storage? Because you really don't need a server for that, you can just set up a network and get some of these:

i need a server computer for the internet. now im willin to spend abit of money i need to get a server computer, a good computer and at least 4-6 more computers for music downloads and music mixing/editing

ok i see were ur at mate
1st off ull want a laptop for Djing
and u wont need more than one computer for downloading
having more computers will not make downloads faster
ok ill start with a laptop
i sudgest a toshiba satellite...
pros
1st off ive never had a buz come out of it..
2nd its so rubust i drop mine daily its never died
cons
laptop has only one CD deck
my toshiba puts out realy low line level voltage ....

Desktop
anything will do, just install some bareback version of XP and put limewire on it ... share the folder so u can access files from laptop

ok thats all u realy need if u get a good program all youll need is some amps and speakers

BUT if u want to go CD turntable
ull want to have a 3ghz CPU at least 1 400w power suply and then ull want to put 2 or so CD burners in the computer

also in the desktop youll want to put at least 2 500gig hdd in the computer

There's no reason he would need a labtop, and as said there is no reason you need mroe then one computer for downloading, Just put a large harddrive in there.

What is the server going to be used for? what tasks is it going to be running?

Ya if you really just need a lot of storage all you need is a bunch of large harddrives and a case that can hold them all. The only time you really need a real server is if you are hosting an internet site, or a large network that can hold stuff for lots of computers. Most people have no need for that and just parts of a server like the lots of hard drive space.
