Question LCD screen BLANK!

Hello all,
my LCD screen on my Packard Bell Easy Note M7 - 306EDR has gone blank.

Well, not totaly blank, if I look close enough I can still see the LC displayed just with no back light.

Have connected an ext moniter in the mean time, but it's a bit ridiculous dragging that around everytime I want to use my note book.

Have also tried all the diff fn keys - no go bro!

So it seems that it is either the inverter or the backlight.

If this is the case does anyone know how I can test to see which one is faulty?

or does anyone know which is the most common part that goes on this model - relating to the inverter/backlight.

Or maybe direct me to a helpful website?

Oh yea and warrenty has run out suprise! suprise!

Look forward to your response

Probably a short in the ribbon that goes to your LCD. Fairly common amoung laptops, I know dad's does the same(well, flickers)

If just moving it around doesn't work, try getting into it and reseating the ribbon and wires for the LCD. Some times that's enough to get it going again.

The back light is the most common to go. You could try replacing that to see if that was all it is on the older model there. If you run a search on that model you can find plenty of vendors and memory but not specifications. The user's manual if you have that would specify the replacement part or web site for customer support. You would have to know the type of bulb to run a search for a site that carries that type.

I had this happen to my laptop and I had to scrap it They said the entire screen needed to b replaced and it would not be much more expensive to get a whole new one. SO make sure you find out how much you would have to put out before yu make your decision, it might be better to just get a new one.

With it sounding more like the back light simply quit you would want to contact a dealer or service center for information on replacement. It does mean opening up the casing to get at it since everything is compact there. Hopefully it won't turn out to be a soldered in type. I went through a ton of old Epson notebooks some years back. But those would be labeled antiques at this time. If the unit has a replacable type bulb there are some good sites that sell all types of replacements.

Most likely to be the inverter on the LCD module; however its worth looking for a keyboard shortcut that disables the backlight. On acer systems its Fn+F7... however i dont know what it is on your system.
Have a looks out for the keyboard shortcuts and try the one that corresponds to the backlight switch on your system and give it a try.

One thought here was a stuck switch found near the hinges or the cable itself since that is pulled back and forth often. It would only take one wire to be pulled out to goof things up. Make sure the button switch isn't still down in the recessed position as it would when the screen is down.
