Exclamation Is it true you void warranty if you open and/or add parts?

This I just found out, or so I think...I add lots of new things, but I heard if your not a certified specialist then you void the warranty. Please tell me this isn't true.

if you made the PC yourself
you won't void any warranty

if you bought the PC, then there might be a little sticker stuck on where the side panel is attached to the rest of the case. If you broke that sticker, then the warrenty is voided, atleast that's what my emachine had.

What if you peel the sticker thing and replace it without someone noticing that it was removed. Then your not technically breaking the seal.

Dunno if that will work. My 10 yr old dell that I used before this computer had a little button on the inside of the case, which is pushed in when the case is put on on the production line at Dell-land. Now, if you take the case OFF, the button comes out, completing the action so to speak, and the computer now knows that the case has been removed, and a brief message appears just before start-up, saying that case has been removed.

My eMachines had this sticker too. I peeled it up in order to put in a different modem and a second hard drive. I also noticed that eMachines includes printed instructions on how to put hard drives and PCI cards in. When I spoke to a tech guy he just said to take out what I put in when I shipped it in for depot warranty service and there would be no problem. There was no problem

You can reset the case has been opened notice. That is mainly there for corps and schools to notify of possible tampering.
