Default newb question about connecting external firewire to mboard

I am in the process of putting a budget pc together for my sister and the case I got her(black Ultra Wizard) actually has a front panel firewire port on it so I figured what the hell.. might as well make it functional.. well there is the 4 ports on the motherboard to hook up external USB and me never using firewire I dunno if it needs a certain plug or what?? I think I remember on one of my older motherboards though, the connection actually said "1394" but I don't remember for sure. can I plug the firewire in the usb plugs on the board and it will work fine? I mean the plug looks identical but I wanna make sure I'm not going to fry something first. Thanks
