compaq presario damaged hardware

Hi. I have a compaq presario 907 laptop which i damaged, i think, by hitting it one time too often. Windows will no longer run and we have tried to reload it to no avail. I have retrieved crucial files by accessing c: running off a windows cd and copying manually.
Can anyone tell me if it is possible to repair (is it the motherboard which is damaged?). the issue seems to be that the dll files are corrupted.
and at what cost?

you might've screwed your HD up, where? and how hard did you hit it?

You may have damaged the hard drive on the system, download the drive fitness test from here http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/download.htm and run it. I assume you have access to a working pc hence the post. Creat a boot floppy or use the CD image on and boot from the disk. Run the advanced test on your drive and wait for the result. You may be able to just do a system restore seeing as you can still access files on the system.
