Default Hitachi Laptop Harddrive Data Recovery

I need to recover some date on an Hitachi Travelstar laptop harddrive that crashed. It's a model HTS548040M9AT00, with P/N #08K0856. I bought an R-Driver USB 2.0 to IDE Cable to hopefully do this but the connectors don't fit the drive. Can anyone suggest what USB 2.0 to IDE Cable adapter would work on the Hitachi? Thanks in advance for any help.

Have you tried an external HD enclosure?

Should be as long as you get a 2.5" enclosure. That drive should also be 2.5"

I finally figured out how to use the "USB 2.0 to IDE Cable" adapter on thje laptop harddrive that crashed. I connected it up, including power, and I can hear the disk spinning. However, the computer doesn't indicate it has been recognized; i.e nothing happens. When I go to the file manager (Windows XP), it doesn't show it's connected. Any ideas on how to get thos going? Thanks for the help.
