Default Verizon Sucks!

Read this. It's a story about my problems with Verizon. It's fairly entertaining.

So a couple months ago I install my brand spankin’ new Verizon DSL that can be done in “three easy steps!” Once I got it installed, I was able to open up Internet Explorer and have the internet right in front of me in less than five seconds. I then went to download MSN so I could have e-mail and such.
Now a few months have passed and I’m getting sick of MSN. Its load time is slower than a car without wheels and when I click on an e-mail, the CPU usage jumps to 1,000%. So as easy as it is, I uninstall it. I then come to find that when MSN is uninstalled, my internet doesn’t work. So I do what I’ve done a lot of times in the past. I reinstall Verizon. It worked until I restarted my computer. Now instead of reading “connected” on my Local Area Connection, it says “Acquiring network address.” I went into the DOS command screen and typed in ‘ipconfig’. “Oh no” I say. My IP address is 0.0.0.0, my subnet mask is also 0.0.0.0, and the default gateway shows nothing at all. I then try again to reinstall Verizon but when it was testing my configuration, it would always freeze up on that screen. I then thought up another idea. I went into where you can configure your IP address numbers and changed the 0.0.0.0 to the IP address I had before all of this havoc happened which was 192.168.2.1. Well…..At least I got rid of the acquiring network address thing. It said “connected” now but I still couldn’t access the internet. I switched back to “automatically configure IP address” and it went back to 0.0.0.0.
My friend did some research on this problem and found out that when you uninstall MSN, you have to create a new network profile or something like that. I had no clue what that was so I’ve been asking around on the forums but no one has replied yet. My only hope now is to call tech support. I hate to do it but it’s my only hope and maybe they could actually fix it.
So after about 15 minutes on the line with them, they’re telling me I need a new network adaptor. I don’t know about you but I think my network adaptor is working just fine. So I decided to call them again and see if another agent gives me the same story as the last agent. The second agent just happened to be a caller’s worst nightmare. He was Arabic! I happened to survive through the call and he told me the exact same thing the last agent said. I need a new network adaptor. So I bought a new one just to prove to them that it wasn’t my network adaptor causing the problem. I installed the new adaptor and the drivers as well, and whaddya know…..I’m still having the same exact problem. So I called them yet again and told them that it’s still not working. They took me through the same old troubleshooting steps and they’re still saying the exact same thing! They said that the modem and Ethernet card are not communicating with each other and that there is a problem with the Ethernet card. How can there be a problem with the Ethernet card when it’s brand new and I’m having the same problem with my integrated LAN? They told me they couldn’t help and that I should call HP right away to tell them about my so called “problem” with my computer. I don’t about you but after experimenting, there is nothing wrong with my integrated LAN on my motherboard. So calling HP would just be another waste of my time. So I called Verizon back and immediately requested a new DSL modem. They were more than happy to replace it. So I got it and started right away hooking it up. After everything was plugged in, I was still having the same problem. Surprise surprise. So I called them back and updated them on my problem. They are now saying I need a new motherboard! How much money do I have to spend to prove to them that none of this is causing my problem! I keep telling Verizon over and over again that it can’t be any of this that is causing my problem but they keep sticking to their story instead. My next step would be reinstalling my OS to see if that would work. After about an hour of OS reinstallation, my internet connection is now working again.
After all this I say "ugh! I hate Verizon with a passion!"

Well first off, I wouldnt call verizon if it was the last thing I done, Im not trying to hijack your post, but instead add to the uselessness of verizon here is my story:
At my dads house we have dsl, very fast connection, I loved it eveyone in my house and my dads house are computer ignorant so, Im the only one that knows anything, anyways back on topic, Well I was gonna go stay at my dads house for 2 weeks, and then I realized o wait they have a really really crappy pc, so I brung mine over, I hooked it up and walla no internet on both the pcs, So I go to the control panel, network setting and try to find a connection.......nothing, and my dad is like,"omg what have you done", Im like dad calm down its alright, *while laughing*, and hes still freaking out, so Im like ok, Ill call verizon, So I get on the phone and who do I get a arabic, now I have no problem with arabic people, its just you cant understand a word you are saying while talking to them, I tell them my problem, and they say the same thing that they told calibretto, well your router is the problem, then I say no the router isnt the problem cause it works when I connect it to just one computer, and they say well, it is he router, because You should be getting a connection, and I once again say no it isnt........well 10 minutes later I told him where he could put a new router and then I hung up, so I connect the internet to one computer, and then it dawns on me, OMG The router wasnt in dual, so I then go online i with the old computer, (while mine wasnt hooked up) and changed it, walla problem solved, and after at least a hour of hastling with a guy I could barely understand, I was right all along.......I have never called verizon since that.

errr they dont know what they are talking about and dont always fix your problems, sounds to me like their service is a load of crap.

NTL have been in for some stick over here in the UK for some of their support too. Sometime ago when they went over to 10mb broadband they failed to realise that a lot of their existing customers had modems that would not be able to cope with the service. Countless people contacted them including a friend of mine and they refused to accept the modem was at issue. Just so happened that my mate was a bit of an expert in such matters.

He was passed around a few service people and then spelt it out for them...the exact problem. Low and behold they upgraded the modem.

Unfortuantely a qualification for a lot of these help centres is not a qualification in IT of some sort. Which would kinda be useful. Instead they go through a set of standard question from their list which gives standard...and often wrong...solutions

It all goes to show, you get what you pay for... Don't complain after you select the cheapest ISP.
