Question need help with laptop ram pleasee!

k so i bought two 256mb chips for my laptop (SODIMM PC100 - i have a dell inspiron 8000), and i changed them both and booted the computer. all i get is a white screen, no bios, no loading LED's, nothing
so i changed the ram back to my old ones figuring the new ram was no good. sure enought i get the same white screen. What did i dooooo? and what do i do?

any help would be appreciated thanks

and your sure that the 8000 called 4 PC-100? and not like PC-2100, 4 ex.?

well the ram i pulled was pc-100, unless im missing anything else? im also concerned about the fact that the comp doesnt work with the original ram either now

You can try resetting the cmos but It almost sounds like you frys something some how... Make sure the ram is all the way in and the side thigns snap down.

Do you hear any beeps when you start up?


JP : PC100 is another type of ram, its SD

yea after like 25 seconds it beeps twice, ram is in good

I had this problem too, when I removed the pentium, I had to reinstall XP, but from what you're describing it doesn't sound like it's that, since the original RAM doesn't work either it does sound like the mobo is fried, I would closely inspect the RAM and the slot and make sure everything is in good shape.

i didnt ground myself while installing it, do u think that could be what caused the problem?

No, I never ground myself other than occasionally touching the case, I doubt that would have broken it.
