Usually this error occurs when the executable is corrupted, or failes to meet the CRC check. Perhaps something is wrong with the drive/drivers/discs. It sounds to me like it goes to load, then misses a bit or something, which would result in this error.

Well, it's not the discs, because I tried two dvd games, and neither of them opened. Btw, sry for the retarded post, I didn't post it. I'll give clearer info... It's a LiteOn 52xCD-Rom, 52xCD-R, 32xCD-RW, and 16xDVD-Rom Model #SOHC-5236V06C. So... It's the only IDE drive, so I have the jumpers on CableSelect. (I've Also tried it on Master and Slave, but to no avail.) I installed HL2 and that went fine, but that was a CD. I then tried Oblivion, but that said d is not a valid win 32 app. (Obliv is a dvdrom). My friend brought BF2 over, which he plays on his comp, and that didn't install. (FYI thats a dvdrom too.) I then decided to see if I could play a regular dvd, so I put in a dvd (Chronicles of riddick(sp) lol) and it worked fine. It may be the drive, or may have something to do with the drivers. The Drive didn't come with drivers, it just came with dvd software...So, I hope this added info. helps.

You may be having a problem that is similar to mine then. I have two drives, a DVD+-RW Dual Layer (which works perfectly), and a Sony DVD/CD-RW Combo drive.

The combo drive reads and writes CDs perfectly. It also reads DVD video perfectly. Any DVD-ROM media I insert whatsoever, it will make loud noises, and never even read the TOC of the disc, I must end up manually ejecting it. I am at a loss on this one too, maybe it's a known problem with DVD lenses.

Perhaps since DVD is a finer lens, if it wears out for DVD usage (aka looses it's fineness too much for DVD), it could still have plenty to go before it goes to far for CD.

Umm, I'm not spikethewarlord, sorry.

I would be pissed too, but I do think your best option is to buy a new drive. Actually, since this doesn't read DVD roms now, I'm going to replace it with a white (all else is black), faster, quieter CD-ROM drive, because my DVD burner makes better CDs, I don't need the burner either.

Bought another drive, but same problem occurs. I can't figure this out, it must not be the drive, but it's not the games, so it must be something with the os..hmmm. I'll start a post in that section maybe...

The games that will not install, are you talking about a game that is purely on the dvd or one that install files on to the hdd and just uses the dvd for extra info during the game?

Although it should not stop a game running, did you check the current data transfer mode for the drive? Device Manager / IDE .... Controllers / relevant IDE Channel / Properties / Advanced Settings?

All cd/dvd drives that I've had use the standard Windows drivers.

Yes, but there is sometimes a method of re-installing these Windows drivers to that device ID to fix certain problems.
