Question HELP??? Slow burning drive

I am having trouble when it comes to burning and create image of cd's and dvd's on my drive. When i go to burn one of them my drives goes very slow, for cd's at about 12x and dvd 2x. All my settings are to max and i don't know what the problem is. I have used numerous burning proggies (alcohol, nero, Shrink) and they all act the same way, and when im buring or creating an image the program says it is using 2% of the CPU but in Task Manager it says i am using 90-100% of my cpu usage. I never used to have this problem so I know it can go faster.
***NEED HELP FAST***
THANKS TO ANYONE WITH ANY TIPS.

When you check Task Manager, which process is using 90-100%? Did you recently change the disk media?
