Question Just bought a new board, but how do I know the max power it can handle?

OK, so I just got this new board, and I have a 400W power supply. It should work, but I have got to know, are there sencers or something in the board that will only allow the max power and not use the rest, or if I put too much in by accident will it fry the board? And if it helps my power supply has all the safety fetures (exverload protechtion and many I can't think of at the moment). I have a socket A board and when I bought my new Socket A CPU and it was shipping, my board broke and when my new cpu got here, I had no board to put it in. Its a no return unless DOA. Its an Athlon XP 2.2Ghz, and I saw on the internet that it is almost equivalent to a pentium 4 3Ghz. I don't know how thats possible, but I'm willing to try it. Its also got stuff like quanty speed that make 400MHz FSB work like 800MHz. But back to the point. A board can only exept a sertain amount of power, but how do I know how much It can take? Or will it work even if I put, say a 500W supply and I find out that it only recomends a 400W supply?

I know that was kind of a ramble but I can really explain it better than that.

You should just get one that will supply enough juice for your componets. You don't want to go spend $350 on a one kilowatt power supply just to power a Celeron. 400W should be enough in your case. What video card are you using?

Just an 6200 AGP, But I know I have enough power, I just don't want to fry the board. I just want to know what the max is on it.

You can't fry a board unless you have a bad power supply or something.

In other words, their isn't really a "maximum" wattage power supply your board can handle. 400W should just just fine for your rig.
