Question trying to choose the right laptop...

I'm trying to figure out which laptop would be the best one to buy. I'm a student and so i'm going to need a computer that's fairly light and easy to transport, i also want it to be able to handle games well, and i need it to be something that will be able to last me for several years... so far i've looked into the cheaper alienware computers (the sentias) and i've been looking at the new macs as well... I'd really appreciate any suggestions you have as to what kind of notebooks to look into. my budget is restricted to computers that are less than or close to $1000

any suggestions you have to offer are very appreciated...
thanks for your time...

you'll need an x700 at least i would think. hard to find a machine for 1k with that.

..

depends on what you mean by "last". I'm assuming you mean technology? Again, 1000 bucks isn't going to get you a technologically advanced machine, hence your worries will become true in a sooner time than you'd like.

Apple has a student discount of 200 bucks plus a 179$ rebate for an ipod of your choice.

I'm probably getting ready to buy a mac book pro. 1gb of ram, x1600, and about 4 hours of battery life if you are in class.

it's 1799(normally 1999), with a ram upgrade to 1gb you're at 1899. you can also get boot camp to help with your windows apps if need be, and this thing can play games and do lots of cool media stuff.

You could also just turn around and sell your nano on ebay, and just put the 125 bucks in your account. so really it's about 1775 for all that stuff.

so really, if you put the comp on a payment plan, it would be a much better option for you because you are looking for a good gaming/school comp.

Basically what I'm saying is that if you want a lappy with these features, 1000 bucks isn't going to cut it. I'd go with something more expensive, preferably 2k. I did all the explaining about the mac because I'm getting ready to buy one myself for the same purpose as you. I need something so I can do my writings and presentations at school, and still be able to take my games to my friends houses if i want.

Happy Hunting,
Grim
