Default Reformatting HDD

So I bought this computer 2nd hand, and since Windwos updates with no hassles I assume it's a legit version of Windows, but I never got any Windows CD or anything of that sort.

So my question is, can I easily format my master HHD? Do I need any CD's or anything of that nature?

Bear in mind I've never formatted the main drive before, so for all my dumb ass knows I might not even need the CD or any serial numbers.

Cheers.
