Default Wma Plays, Rips, But Won't Burn!

I recently installed Windows Media Player 11 in place of WMP 10,
hoping it would correct a problem, but it hasn't. WMP will recognize an audio disk with content, will play it, and will rip from it to the computer, but it won't recognize the existence of a blank disk when put in the same drive, and thus won't burn to it.
I also have Record Now! and Musicmatch Jukebox, both of which will both rip and burn from the same drive. "My Computer" tells me the the CD drive "is working properly", which is true only when I don't use WMP. I have found nothing in Window's Troubleshooting advice to correct WMP's failure to recognize a blank disk when it will do everything it should do with a disk having audio content.
Advice, anyone?

Have you tried another brand of blank disk? It is unlikely a drive would completely fail to recognize a poor quality blank but you never know.

You could run the Nero Info Tool and see what it says in the Disc tab about the media/drive.

STARMAN: Thanks for 2 reasons- (1) for your reply; and (2) for not commenting on the fact that I seem to have referred several times to Windows Media Player as Wma rather than WMP!
I've used several brands of disk, and Nero Info Tool doesn't enlighten me, but thanks again for the effort.

I recently kept typing WMP when I meant XP burning. It must be some mind warp caused by the letters W-M-P.

Another problem with WMP in particular is that it has fully implemented Digital Rights Management. If you are trying to copy commercial music (not that you would do that) it will not allow it. I'm not sure if that applies to the initial copy to hdd.

Quick way to test, make your own audio cd on a cdrw (a couple of tracks for speed). Try and copy it.
