the taskbar is the bar along the bottom of your screen, and houses the start button, and little rectangles showing your running programs. click in the blank space between this.

The Clear List was all you needed there. The add/remove startups will effect programs you have installed on your system. As soon as you clear the list just exit back to the desktop.

The task bar can also be locked at the top or side of the screen with the auto hide enabled or disabled. When you move the mouse pointer at the sides or bottom by default it will be the long thin rectangular bar that suddenly pops up. You then simply right on the blank space between the Start menu and quick launch links and the clock and small icons at the other end. The menu then appears for choosing properties.

Once you get into the Customize Start Menu screen you simply click on the clear button(#5) under the sort button(#4) and then press the OK button to exit that screen and then click the OK button on the remaining Task Bar and Start Menu screen to exit that. You are all done at that time. If you tamper with anything you will effect the list of items that start along with Windows.

Yes that is exactly what you need to do. Here it is in a picture I have made for you.

Download this program (MRU Blaster) that will do it all for you from here:
