Your video card and cpu will be the high cost items along with cooling there. If you are not planning the expense for a water cooling or air conditioned case then you want to look over some cases at http://www.xoxide.com for model with large fan openings(120mm, even 140mm) for air flow increase there. The cpu cost will depend on brand(AMD, Intel) and type as well(single, dual core). Over $800 alone for an FX60 dual cored cpu there.

Video cards like the Radeon X1900 XTX or 7900 series NVidia models are going to run over $300 on average. Gee? That's $1,200 already if the case chosen was under $100 with S+H included. I paid $110 for 2gb of Kingston Value Ram at a pc show with that bringing the total just over your budget! So you won't be looking at the latest high end gear there. Have any ideas on makes and models of the various hardwares? Anyone can easily throw links in.

Try right clicking on the link and choosing open in second window. Or you can run a search for gaming cases and see that as one of the popular vendors that come up. The quick way if a right click doesn't work is manually typing it into the IE address bar and clicking the Go button at the right end of it.
