I was watching TV when the monitor on the computer lit up and proceeded to go into shutdown mode. It didn't actually shut down on it's own. It's like when you restart your computer, when have to do it manually. Anyone have an idea what happened?

I was watching TV when I noticed out of the corner of my eye- the monitor on the computer came on. It was already in hibernation mode when this happened. I didn't make any sudden noise or movements that would bring it out of hibernation. Somehow the computer monitor came on and wanted to shut itself down because the icon "turn off computer" came on a few moments later . It couldn't shut off or restart by itself since it had to be done manually.
Any ideas??? |

maybe it has a time set to shutdown, or restart at a specific time, is there anything similar between the time this happens, e.g. same time every day, exactly xx hours after it was last used?

I'm sure that it would be automatic if set like this but are you sure you havent got the power saving settings set up within the properties? I'm pretty sure there is one for hard drive shutdown after x amount of hours or something. It's within the screensaver options I think, when you right click on the desktop and go to properties. Might be on a different tab other than screensavers but it's somewhere around there. Check them (wild guess but better to be safe than sorry).
But indeed, noticed any patterns in time? I.e. after x amount of minutes/hours of being idle, same time every day etc? |

I use Mcaffee as a virus scanning program. I was alarmed at what had happened since it has happened before a couple times. It almost seemed like someone was trying to hijack it. Of course I'm certainly no expert but it was an very odd occurance and I thought I'd bring it up. Perhaps It's nothing to worry about............
