You have to look over the specifications on a board itself to see if it supports a dual cored cpu. Often a vendor will list boards under that catagory as part of their method to narrow down the makes and models in that catagory they carry onhand.

nope. it has to specify that its compatible, or have the chipset that intel specifies that it supports core 2 duo.

Mega, currently, the Intel 965P chipset, newer 975X boards, newer nforce 4 intel boards, and the soon to be released for intel nforce 5XX support conroe (there might be something which I missed but thats a good outline). If your still not sure, show us the board your looking at.

"You need a PECI-compatible motherboard, which means that it either has the a manager component or simulates it by sending a dummy signal to the processor (this will be the case for low-cost motherboards). If the signal isn't there, systems with a Core 2 Duo or Core 2 Extreme will not boot! This is also the reason why it turned out that you will need to replace even a 975X motherboard, although technically it could have supported Core 2 Duo." http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/07/..._64/page7.html
